A Big Win for Worthing West!

Chatsmore Farm Planning Appeal Update.

This month we had the great news that plans to develop Chatsmore Farm have finally been rejected, after so many years of campaigning and litigation.  Residents, along with Worthing Borough Council, have been clear in their commitment to preserving this precious green space and the outcome is a real testament to the tenacity and strength of our community.

The Borough Council’s Planning committee originally turned down the application in 2021 and as Council Leaders, myself and later Sophie Cox continued to oppose the plans through two public inquiries and hearings at the High Court and Court of Appeal. Throughout that time there have been numerous protests by local residents and representatives from all sides of the political spectrum, who have stood firm in the face of what at times did seem an unwinnable battle against such a wealthy and powerful developer as Persimmon.

We will still have to see what their response will be but I’m hopeful that the company will now start to work with the community rather than continuing to fight against us in the courts. This is a huge win for local residents and I am so proud to represent our fantastic Worthing West.
